About Hatch Matcher
The Idea
Hatch Matcher started as a simple question — what if a newer fly fisherman standing on the bank didn't have to go home empty handed just because they didn't know what was hatching? And what if a seasoned angler could pull up the tying recipe for that pattern they half-remembered, right there on the water?
Built By
Ron Peoples
Fly fisherman, volunteer with The Mayfly Project, and someone who just genuinely likes helping people. This app is free, always will be, and exists because the fly fishing community has given me a lot — this is one way of giving something back.
The Vision
The goal is a genuinely useful all-around fly fishing app — something that hasn't really existed before. Match the hatch, build your box, look up a tying recipe, identify a bug on the water. This is version one. There's a lot more to come.
The Mayfly Project — Smethport, PA
The Mayfly Project uses fly fishing to serve children in foster care. Each project is 5 outings where kids learn to fly fish with trained volunteer mentors — providing the meditative rhythms of casting, time in nature, and a positive adult presence that children in care need most.
The results speak for themselves: 100% of kids had fun. 100% want to keep fishing. 100% of caregivers saw an improved mood.
