How to tie the Beetle (Terrestrial)
Hook: Tiemco TMC 100, sizes 12-16
Thread: Uni 8/0 Black
Materials
- Hook: Tiemco TMC 100, #12-16
- Thread: Uni 8/0 Black
- Shell/Back: Black closed-cell foam strip
- Body/Underbody: Peacock herl or black dubbing
- Legs: Black rubber legs or black hackle
- Indicator: Orange or red foam dot (optional)
Tying steps
- Mount hook. Tie in a strip of black foam at the bend, leaving a tag behind for the shell.
- Tie in peacock herl or dub a black body forward to 3/4 of hook.
- If using rubber legs, tie in 3 on each side.
- Pull black foam over the body and tie down firmly at 3/4 mark.
- Leave a small foam tab sticking out behind for a tail-like shell effect.
- Optional: glue a small orange foam dot on top for visibility.
- Whip finish, head cement.
