How to tie the Blue Winged Olive (Nymph)

Materials

- Tail: Pheasant tail fibers (3-4)
- Rib: Fine copper wire
- Abdomen: Pheasant tail fibers wrapped forward
- Thorax: Olive-brown hare's ear dubbing
- Wingcase: Dark turkey tail or black foam strip
Tying steps
- Debarb hook and mount in vise. Lay a thread base from eye to bend.
- Tie in 3-4 pheasant tail fibers as a short tail (half hook-gap length).
- Tie in fine copper wire at the bend for ribbing.
- Wrap pheasant tail fibers forward in touching turns to form a slim abdomen to the 2/3 point.
- Counter-wrap copper rib in 5 even turns, tie off and trim.
- Tie in a narrow strip of dark turkey tail for the wingcase.
- Dub a small thorax of olive-brown hare's ear dubbing.
- Pull wingcase forward over thorax, tie down behind eye, whip finish, apply head cement.
